“Pink slime” is inexpensive, ammonia-treated beef. hosted a petition urging the USDA to stop buying the substance for school-lunches. Within days, the National School Lunch Program, McDonald’s, Kroger, Safeway, and others announced they would reduce or eliminate it. One online petition made food safer for American children.
